Walk + Roll Events

We hold Walk + Roll events throughout the year to encourage walking and rolling to school. Rolling means using any device that has wheels but doesn’t have a motor—such as a bicycle, a scooter, a skateboard, rollerblades, roller skates, or a wheelchair—for transportation.

Our Walk + Roll events include:

  • Walking Buses

    • Walking School Buses A walking bus is a group of students, family members, school staff, and community leaders that walk together along a route to school.

    • This alleviates car congestion in school zones. Students can practice pedestrian safety tools and skills.

  • International Walk + Roll to School Day

    • The first or second Wednesday in October

    • Students who walk or roll to school receive prizes when they arrive

  • Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day

    • November 14 (or the following Wednesday if the 14th is on the weekend)

    • Students receive prizes for walking to school

    • Students learn about Ruby Bridges and her courageous walk for justice in their classrooms
