Bicycle Safety Education and Learn-to-Ride Programs

Our Bicycle Safety Education program is designed for students in grades three through five, while the Learn-to-Ride curriculum targets those in kindergarten through second grade. We provide bicycles and helmets in various sizes and styles to facilitate exploration and learning during Physical Education (PE).

In addition to student support and encouragement, our program coordinates volunteers and SRTS staff to be on-site at schools daily supporting educators during instruction.

We are thrilled to announce that the first of our two new bike fleet trailers made its official debut at Lamb Elementary in Spring of 2026. We can now deploy a dedicated 8’x25’ cargo trailer—affectionately named Heron—and a fleet of 35 Trek bikes to support Bike Safety Education across the region.

Although we have not purchased our own adaptive bike fleet quite yet, we are able to provide adaptive bikes within Salem-Keizer School District’s Special Education services thanks to Cycle Oregon.

Our second trailer and fleet was purchased Summer of 2026 with full intention to be at our first Salem-Keizer Public School in September for the 2026-2027 academic year!

Thanks to a partnership with two Salem local bicycle shops, students who present a Salem-Keizer Safe Routes Bicycle Safety Education Certificate will receive a discount on their purchase.
